WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's men's soccer team was held scoreless for just the second time this season.
The Lancers lost 1-0 to Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday, the team's third straight one-goal defeat.
The teams were practically even statistically in what proved to be a midfield battle. Grace was slightly outshot 8-7, although the Lancers (7-4-2, 1-3-1 Crossroads League) had eight corner kicks.
Grace could only muster two shot attempts in the opening half. The Wildcats (4-6-3, 2-3 CL) tried six shots before halftime, but neither side could penetrate the nets.
IWU shot just twice in the second half, but one of those shots won the match. The Wildcats scored six minutes after halftime in what turned out to be the game's only goal.
Grace, who possessed the ball consistently, tried five shots in the second half. But the Lancers could not best the Wildcats' defense and suffered the 1-0 shutout.
Marcelo Talamas and Omar Gonzalez each shot twice to lead Grace's offense.
The Lancers remain home on Saturday at 7 p.m., hosting Mt. Vernon Nazarene. Saturday's match will also be Senior Night to honor Grace's graduating class.
