Lancers primed for opening round of NCCAA

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's men's and women's basketball teams are putting the final touches on their preparation for the 2019 NCCAA National Championships this week.

Both teams kick off the tournament on Wednesday night at Grace's Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center, and both squads face off with the same opponent.

The men's team, No. 5 in the tournament, will take on No. 4 Bluefield on Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.

The fifth-seeded Lady Lancers will also play Bluefield, squaring off at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The winner of each game will advance to the national semifinals on Thursday night. The men's semifinal would be played at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday with the women's semifinal to follow at 7 p.m.

This year's tournament has special significance as the final three games in the career of Jim Kessler, Grace's men's basketball head coach.

Kessler announced his retirement in February and will coach his final three games this week to wrap up his 42-year career. All men's basketball alumni are invited back to campus during tournament week and will receive free admission to watch Coach K on the sidelines one final time.
