WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Grace's baseball team enjoyed a dynamic 13-1 win over Michigan-Dearborn on Monday.
The Lancers' offense exploded for 18 hits in a run-ruled 8-inning victory. The Wolverines (7-3-1) were a quality opponent, already owning wins this season over three Crossroads League opponents (Spring Arbor, Mt. Vernon Nazarene, Bethel).
David Anderson and Jacob Hammel combined to silence UMD from the mound. They limited the Wolverines to just three hits with nine strikeouts.
Anderson threw six innings to get the win, striking out six and allowing one run and three hits. Hammel was perfect in two innings of relief; he faced the minimum six batters and struck out three of those six batters.
Hunter Ackerman impressed at the plate. The senior finished the day 4-of-5 with 2 runs, 2 doubles and 5 RBIs to outscore UMD by himself.
Anderson, in addition to his pitching duties, also hit 2-for-4 with a walk. Sam Newkirk produced a 3-hit day with a double and two RBIs, and Jaron Mullett also drove in a pair of runs.
Chris Griffin finished 2-for-5 with three runs scored, Branden Scott was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Sid Elford was also 2-for-4.
The Lancers' Florida trip continues on Tuesday with a 10 a.m. game against Rochester.
