WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Four players scored for Grace's men's soccer team during a 4-1 rout of Lincoln on Saturday.
The Lancers were in control throughout the match at 1st Source Bank Field, owning a 21-6 shot advantage. Grace (5-1-1) secured its fourth straight victory in the process.
The Lancers were patient offensively in the first half. Grace focused on its possession and gradually wore down the Lynx's defense.
In the 32nd minute, Grace finally broke through. Jonny Mora sent in a dangerous cross from the left side. Cody Boerema pounced on the loose ball and flicked in his shot to the far post.
Grace led 1-0 at halftime; the Lynx were held to just two shots in the first half.
It took only five minutes of action in the second half for Grace to score again.
Togo Narusawa was fouled just outside the penalty box. The senior took the free kick, beat the wall and placed his shot inside the right post at the 49:39 mark.
The remaining three goals in the match were scored in a six-minute section. Grace's third goal also came after a foul.
The Lancers restarted quickly after a foul near midfield and caught the Lynx napping. Marcelo Talamas advanced down the left side and passed ahead just in front of the goal. Ulisses Miranda connected with the ball, sliding a shot around the goalkeeper at the 62:22 mark.
Lincoln managed to score its only goal less than a minute after Miranda's strike, converting off a corner kick.
The final goal was a well-worked play from Grace. Boerema crossed into the penalty box from the right side of the field. Felipe Gruber headed the cross with pace inside the near post in the 69th minute for the final 4-1 scoreline.
Grace had 13 shots on goal for the match and had a 5-1 edge on corner kicks. Boerema tried six shots to lead all players, and Miranda and Talamas each shot four times.
The Lancers are on the road next Saturday at Cleary for the final nonleague contest of the season.
