WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's women's tennis team pulled out a narrow 4-3 victory over IU Kokomo on Monday to improve to 9-1 on the season.
The Lady Lancers pulled ahead after claiming the doubles' point. Emily Mast and Dayana Ortega won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Carrie Copeland and Jayna Armstrong also won by the same score at No. 2.
The Cougars (4-3) made the match interesting by winning the bottom three singles' courts.
But Grace clinched the match by sweeping No. 1-3 singles. Copeland cruised 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Ortega won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3.
Mast was the final point of the match. She battled to a win at No. 1 singles by a scoreline of 7-6 (5), 6-2.
The Lady Lancers will remain at home on Tuesday with a 1 p.m. match against No. 25 Marian. The game will likely determine the No. 2 and No. 3 finishers in the Crossroads League standings.
