WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Grace's baseball team dropped its first Crossroads League series of the year, losing twice to Bethel on Saturday.
The Lancers had a one-game advantage after beating the Pilots 6-4 on Friday, but the Pilots rallied with a 7-1, 6-0 sweep on Saturday.
Grace hurt its cause tremendously in the first game with five fielding errors. The Pilots took advantage with three unearned runs during the victory.
Chris Griffin was a bright spot offensively for Grace. Griffin went 3 for 4 with a double, recording three of Grace's four hits.
David Anderson doubled for the Lancers' other hit, and he also stole a base. Xavier Harris walked, was hit by a pitch and scored a run.
Mason Meyer pitched the final three innings, allowing one hit and one unearned run to score.
The final game on Saturday was a nine-inning outing. Grace had eight hits compared to 10 for Bethel, but the Lancers could not produce a timely hit and were shutout.
The Lancers stranded 13 baserunners in the game.
Bethel scored all six of its runs in the top of the first. Incredibly, no other runs were scored by either team over the final 8-and-a-half innings.
