WINONA LAKE, Ind. - The Crossroads League Tournament started in victory for Grace's women's tennis team on Tuesday.
The Lady Lancers beat Bethel 6-1 in the quarterfinals of the CL Tournament. Grace advances to the semifinals on Thursday, traveling to No. 2 seed Marian for a 3 p.m. match.
Tuesday started on a strong foot for Grace by sweeping the doubles' courts. Dayana Ortega and Jayna Armstrong won 6-3 at No. 1, and Anna Graves and Ellie Hughes won by the same score at No. 2. Lauryn Riegsecker and Gretchen Adams had the easiest win 6-1 at No. 3.
Armstrong was nearly perfect (6-0, 6-1) at No. 2 singles. Graves (No. 3), Morgan Mast (No. 4) and Kiersten Martin (No. 6) had little trouble winning in straight sets.
Riegsecker had to scrap for her win at No. 5 singles. Riegsecker produced a 6-2, 1-6, 10-1 scoreline to wrap up the victory.
