WINONA LAKE, Ind. - The high-scoring Grace's men's basketball team could not be stopped during a 94-64 win over Grace Christian on Friday.
The Lancers erupted for 53 points in the second half to end the opening day of the Hoops for Hope. The home tournament is Grace's annual effort to raise funds for the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund.
Grace was highly efficient on offense, shooting 62 percent from the floor (39-63) and 42 percent on 3-pointers (10-24).
The Lancers (5-0) remain undefeated on the year. Grace will face its stiffest test of the young season on Saturday with a 2 p.m. face-off with West Virginia Tech to end the Hoops for Hope. Grace and the Golden Bears are both receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll.
Frankie Davidson led Grace in scoring, tallying 20 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists, and Brett Sickafoose was red-hot by hitting 5 of 6 from downtown en route to 18 points.
The Tigers stayed close to the Lancers for 12 minutes. But halfway through the opening half, Grace began to assert itself.
Grace held a 21-17 lead after 11:50 of action, but the Lancers were primed to explode. Grace went on a 12-0 charge over the next three minutes. Sickafoose hit a pair of treys in the run, and Jake Wadding added six points.
The Lancers consistently held a double-digit lead for the remainder of the half, leading 41-30 at halftime after a late triple by Brycen Graber.
Wadding had 12 points to lead Grace at the half. Grace had 13 assists on 17 made field goals.
Before five minute had expired in the second half, Grace had built a 20-point cushion.
The Tigers were unable to make a significant push in the second half as Grace coasted to the final 30-point margin of victory.
The Lancers racked up 29 assists on 39 made field goals. Eddie Gill IV led all players with 11 assists, adding 6 points, 3 steals and 2 rebounds.
Wadding shot 7 of 10 from the floor for his 16 points. Elijah Malone did not miss a shot (5 of 5), finishing with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.
Ian Scott pulled down 10 rebounds, Graber tallied 5 points, 3 assists, 3 steals and 3 boards, and Carter Stoltzfus notched 7 points, 4 assists, 2 steals and 4 rebounds.
