SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Grace's women's baskeball team improved to 4-1 on the season thanks to an impressive comeback on Sunday.
The Lady Lancers recovered from a four-point first quarter to defeat Lawrence Tech 75-60 on the road.
Karlee Feldman was a force in the post, amassing 21 points and 15 rebounds while shooting 10 of 14 from the floor.
Grace began Sunday's game in similar fashion to Saturday's contest — by shooting ice-cold from the floor.
The Lady Lancers missed their first 12 shots and did not score for the first six minutes of action. Peyton Murphy hit a free throw with 4:04 left in the first quarter for Grace's first point.
Grace continued to struggle mightily at the onset and did not make a field goal until 25 seconds left in the quarter thanks to a pull-up jumper by Kiersten Poor.
The Lady Lancers fell into an early 17-4 hole at the end of the first quarter. Grace shot 1 of 13 from the field and turned the ball over nine times.
In the second quarter, Grace found the "on" switch. It only took the Lady Lancers half the quarter to take their first lead of the game.
Grace opened the second quarter on a commanding 18-4 charge, claiming momentum from the home team.
Kiara Gill sparked Grace as well, scoring six quick points. Her last bucket was a steal and layup to pull the Lady Lancers to within 21-20 with five minutes left in the half.
On the next possession, Karissa Lukasiewicz sank two free throws to give Grace its first lead at 22-21.
The teams exchanged points over the final minutes of the half, and LTU made a driving layup in the waning seconds to claim a slight 35-33 lead at halftime.
After scoring just four points in the first quarter, Grace erupted for 29 points in the second.
Grace got to the free throw line 21 times in the first half but shot 62 percent. From the floor Grace shot 30 percent compared to 46 percent for the Blue Devils.
But Grace forced LTU into 16 turnovers, scoring 14 points directly from those miscues.
Poor began the scoring in the third quarter with a 3-pointer, and the teams exchanged small leads for the next few minutes.
Grace ended the third quarter with eight unanswered points, led by four points from Karlee Feldman. The Lady Lancers earned a nine-point lead entering the final stanza.
In the fourth quarter, Grace turned to Feldman. The stellar post scored six points in the early minutes, helping Grace to a comfortable margin.
The Blue Devils fell behind as many as 15 and could not muster a late response.
Poor had 15 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals, and Kaylee Patton shot 4 of 6 for 11 points, adding 3 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals.
Lukasiewicz racked up 10 points, 5 steals, 5 rebounds and 3 assists, and Kenzie McMahon pulled down eight boards.
Maddie Ryman tallied six assists without a turnover, Peyton Murphy scored seven points, and Gill added six points.
"I thought we played pretty solid after a slow start today. The ladies really kept their poise after the first quarter and just kept grinding it out," said Grace head coach Dan Davis. "It was great to show ourselves we can fight back to a victory on the road. I thought we had a lot of solid performances from players this weekend, and different players stepped up at different times to play big roles."
The Lady Lancers will return home this weekend for the annual Hoops for Hope. The men's and women's tournament will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center and helps raise funds for the Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund.
