Ryman’s 42 powers Grace past Bethel

MISHAWAKA, Ind. - Grace's women's basketball team won its 11th straight game over Bethel, winning by the score of 74-51 on Saturday.

Maddie Ryman was sensational, pouring in a career-high 42 points in the rout. She shot 15 of 28 from the floor and 9 of 20 on 3-pointers.

In a fast-paced affair, Grace was cleaner and more efficient to defeat the Pilots. Grace shot 41 percent from the floor as a team compared to 34 percent for the Pilots. Bethel also turned the ball over 34 times.

Ryman powered Grace's offense to start the day. She scored 10 quick points to give Grace an early boost.

Grace led 13-3 at the onset, forcing Bethel to burn an early timeout.

The teams turned the ball over often in the first quarter. The teams combined for 16 turnovers in the period — 10 of which by the Pilots.

The Pilots struggled to break down Grace's defense in the period and were held to just 18 percent shooting. At the end of the quarter, Grace held a 24-8 lead.

Ryman scored 13 points, and Kensie Ryman and Peyton Murphy each hit triples off the bench.

Grace continued where it left off to start the second quarter. The Pilots were largely muted on offense, not reaching double digits in points until midway through the second quarter.

The Lady Lancers' long-range shooting cooled off in the second quarter. Grace missed six of its eight 3-point tries in the period, which prevented Grace from building on its lead.

Grace went into halftime with a 38-24 advantage. The Lady Lancers held Bethel to 32 percent shooting with 18 turnovers. Bethel did get to the foul line often with 12 free throws compared to none for the Lady Lancers.

Maddie Ryman starred, nearly outscoring Bethel by herself in the half with 23 points.

Grace started the third quarter with five straight points to open up a 19-point lead, forcing another timeout from the Pilots.

Bethel managed to trim Grace's cushion down to 13, but Grace ended the quarter on a 10-2 run to grab a comfortable 24-point margin after three quarters. Karissa Lukasiewicz buried a baseline jumper in the final second to put Grace ahead 56-32.

The Pilots were unable to generate any sort of comeback in the fourth quarter. Grace coasted to the 23-point margin of victory.

Ten players registered a point for Grace. Karlee Feldman had six points and five rebounds, Kiersten Poor had 5 points, 6 assists and 3 steals, and Kaylee Patton tallied 5 points, 4 steals and 2 assists.

Lukasiewicz produced 4 points, 5 boards and 4 steals, and Kenzie McMahon tallied six boards and two steals.

The Lady Lancers are home twice next week. Grace will host Olivet Nazarene on Thursday at 6 p.m. and Judson on Saturday at 2 p.m.
