Lancers grab 16th win of season

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's men's basketball team extended its winning streak to three with a 94-73 win over Grace Christian on Wednesday.

As they have all season, the Lancers (16-10) enjoyed balanced production in the win. Grace had six players score in double figures, led by 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists from Haden Deaton.

Grace shot 52 percent from the floor, including a sizzling 58 percent in the first half.

The Lancers led from start to finish on Wednesday. At halftime, Grace pulled ahead 43-30.

Deaton had a game-high 12 points before halftime, and Jake Wadding and Frankie Davidson each scored eight. The Lancers had a plus-nine advantage in rebounds.

Grace maintained a double-digit cushion for much of the second half, but the Tigers had one comeback in reserve.

GCU used an 8-2 run to trim Grace's lead to 62-57 with 10 minutes remaining. The Lancers did not panic and soon had the game out of reach.

A minute later, Grace began a 15-1 surge which effectively ended the game. Davidson scored five points during the run, and Wadding and Deaton each added four.

The Lancers stayed in front by at least 20 points for most of the final minutes, cruising to the 21-point margin of victory.

For the game, Grace had a 47-35 edge in rebounding. The Tigers were held to 37 percent shooting from the field, including a 3-of-19 performance (16 percent) from beyond the arc.

Davidson tallied 17 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 block, and Elijah Malone just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine boards.

Wadding had 16 points and five rebounds, and Jakob Gibbs finished with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists.

Matt Jennings amassed 10 points, 3 assists and 3 rebounds, and Cody Holmes tallied seven points.

Grace will end the season at home on Saturday. The Lancers will host Huntington at 1 p.m. for Senior Day. The game will have significant ramifications for the Crossroads League. The Lancers can finish anywhere from No. 3-7 in the league standings based on Saturday's games.

The quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament start Feb. 24 with the No. 1-4 seeds hosting the opening round.
