UPLAND, Ind. – Grace's baseball team came up empty in the first doubleheader at No. 18 Taylor on Friday.
The Lancers lost 13-2 and 11-0 on the road against the Trojans (26-9, 15-3 Crossroads League).
Grace and Taylor will end the four-game series on Saturday with another doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m.
Grace's offense was quiet in both games of the twin bill on Friday. Taylor began the opener with a 5-0 lead after two innings, benefitting from a pair of errors by Grace.
Alex Rich singled on the first at-bat for Grace in the first inning, but the Lancers (9-18, 6-12 CL) did not have another hit until the fifth inning.
Grace did score twice in the fifth. Patrick Danforth singled, and Sam Newkirk was hit by a pitch. Rich then stepped up with two outs in the inning and doubled to score two.
But Taylor's offense was efficient, plating 13 runs on 11 hits in the rout. Danforth was 1 for 2 with a run and a stolen base, and Rich finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
Grace's offense was largely muted in the second game. The Trojans used three pitchers to limit Grace to just one hit over the seven-inning affair.
Taylor had two home runs and three doubles to overpower Grace in the 11-0 defeat.
Tanner Clark pitched two innings of relief and surrendered one run, and Austin Carr hit 1 for 2 with a hit by pitch.
