MARION, Ind. – Grace's volleyball team fell 3-1 to No. 16 Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday in Crossroads League play.
The Lady Lancers took the opening set at IWU, but the Wildcats recovered to win the next three sets to clinch the match.
Grace seemed to be in full control during the opening set. The Lady Lancers rattled off eight straight points thanks to the sharp serving of
Grace Erwin.
The Lady Lancers grew a comfortable lead late, and
Jadyn Ross secured the 25-22 win with a kill at the pin.
Alisha Leffring had three kills and two block assists in the set, and
Jenna Mueller had two kills in three swings.
The Wildcats found revenge in the second set, cruising to a 12-point victory to even the match.
In the third set, Grace led early 4-1. But a 5-0 run by IWU midway into the set gave the Wildcats an edge, and IWU pulled away to a 25-16 win.
The Wildcats completed the comeback in the fourth set by the score of 25-19.
Grace's offense was quieted after the first set. The Lady Lancers hit 43 kills on a .097 percentage compared to the Wildcats with 57 kills on a .282 percentage.
Leffring finished with nine kills, and Ross added nine kills of her own. Mueller produced eight kills, and
Anna Frey tallied five kills and 11 digs.
Morgan Syoen had a double-double with 18 assists and 13 digs, and
Riley Owens also had a double-double with 18 assists and 10 digs.
Gina Novotny chipped in 12 digs.
The Lady Lancers will enjoy a three-game homestand next week, hosting Huntington on Wednesday (7 p.m.), Marian on Friday (7 p.m.) and Bethel on Saturday (2 p.m.).
