WINONA LAKE, Ind. - In a match that spanned nearly forty-eight hours, the Grace men's tennis squad held off Huntington 4-3 to remain unbeaten on the season. The contest started on Saturday, but was postponed because of darkness and completed on Monday afternoon.
The Lancers (5-0, 4-0 CL) faced their toughest opponent to date and had to win the final two singles matches to claim the victory.
Nicolas Doria recorded the winning point by knocking off Huntington's Diego Tapia 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 6 singles spot.
Grace claimed the doubles point by winning two of the three contests on Saturday.
Ramiro Candia and
Fabricio Galvan won 6-3 at No. 2 doubles, while
Max Rozas and Doria took No. 3 doubles 6-1.
The Foresters needed to win four of the six singles contests to win the match. Rozas won 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, but Huntington managed wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 to take a 3-2 lead overall. Candia cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles to set the stage for Doria's dramatic win.
The Lancers have a busy week ahead, including a Tuesday doubleheader at Spring Arbor, facing the host and nationally-ranked Indiana Wesleyan.Â
