Offense surges in win over Goshen

GOSHEN, Ind. - Grace's volleyball team completed its season sweep of Goshen on Saturday, winning 3-1 on the road.

The Lady Lancers' offense continued its recent surge, amassing 58 kills on a .234 percentage. The Maple Leafs had 33 kills on a .099 percentage.

Riley Owens directed Grace's offense with 48 assists, 8 digs, 5 kills and 2 aces. Sahara Bee (16 kills, .324 percentage) and Livia Tate (12 kills, .556 percentage) were sharp in attack for Grace.

In the opening set, Grace wasted little time asserting control. The Lady Lancers scored six straight points to grab an early edge.

Not long after, Grace rattled off nine unanswered points to cruise to a 25-13 win. Bee had Grace's final three kills in the set.

The Lady Lancers earned another early lead in the second set, and the Maple Leafs were unable to respond. Grace had its most efficient set to win by eight; Grace had 15 kills on a .379 percentage in the set.

The Maple Leafs used a late rally in the third set to stave off a sweep. Grace owned a 23-21 lead, but Goshen rattled off four unanswered points to win 25-23.

Grace ended the match in the fourth set. The Lady Lancers led by just one at 18-17, but Owens produced a kill and an ace on back-to-back plays to give Grace breathing room.

Bee later added a pair of kills as the Lady Lancers rolled away to a 25-19 win.

Bee's match-high 16 kills came with six block assists and five digs. Katie Swanson also blocked well with five block assists and six kills.

Jadyn Ross just missed a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs, and Jadyn Block's seven kills aided the offense.

Grace Erwin led all players with 14 digs, Liz Schmidt had 10 digs, and Emma Blackford added six digs and four aces.

The Lady Lancers have just one match next week, a home matchup with Bethel on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
