WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's volleyball team came up short in a four-set defeat to Huntington on Saturday.
The Lady Lancers struggled to find their connection offensively, hitting 31 errors at a .078 percentage.
Grace was sluggish out of the gate. Huntington took advantage to win by 12 in the opening set; Grace had just six kills in the set.
The Lady Lancers showed a good response in the second set. Grace used a 7-3 run to gain separation.
Grace held its lead until HU rallied to within one at 23-22. But Alisha Leffring and Morgan Syoen ended the set with late kills as Grace pulled out the 25-23 victory.
Livia Tate had a big role in the second set with three block points, and Grace had five blocks in the set as a whole.
Grace pulled ahead 16-9 in the third set, forcing HU into an early timeout. The Foresters responded with six unanswered points to pull back into the game.
The score remained tight to the final points, tying the score at 17, 18, 19, 20. But the Foresters wrapped up the set with a 5-0 spurt, pulling ahead in the match thanks to a 25-20 win.
Huntington began the fourth set well, building an 11-6 lead.
Grace slowly chipped away at HU's lead, pulling within 16-15. The Foresters recovered with three points in a row, but Cassadi Colbert had two quick kills to spark Grace.
But the Foresters made plays late to secure a 25-21 win to clinch the match.
Leffring led Grace with 10 kills, and Jadyn Block registered 9 kills, 6 digs and 2 block assists. Katie Swanson notched eight kills and two block assists, and Tate had two solo blocks and three block assists.
Grace Erwin tallied 19 digs, and Paige Vander Goot had 13 more. Jadyn Ross finished with six kills and five digs.
Saturday was also Senior Day to honor Grace's graduating class.Â
The Lady Lancers will transition to the postseason next week. Grace will travel to No. 11 Taylor on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament at 3 p.m.
