WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's women's basketball team registered a big win at home, taking down Holy Cross 99-68 on Tuesday.
The Lady Lancers (2-0) used relentless pressure and strong shooting to dismantle the Saints.
Grace shot 54 percent from the floor as a team, led by 22 points from
Karlee Feldman and 19 from
Kiersten Findley.
Grace went to the post early and often in the first half. During the first quarter alone, Grace scored 18 of its 19 points in the paint.
Feldman tallied six first-quarter points,
Kaylee Patton had five, and
Kate Rulli made a pair of buckets as well. After a fast quarter, Grace held a narrow 19-17 advantage.
Grace's pace showed its effect in the second quarter. The Lady Lancers had 13 fastbreak points, erupting for 32 points overall in the frame.
Findley sparked Grace to its biggest lead of the half. She scored 10 points in the quarter with a pair of 3-pointers. Feldman also hit all four of her field goals.
At the half, Grace pushed its lead to 13 at 51-38. The Lady Lancers shot a sizzling 60 percent from the floor in the half, forcing Holy Cross into 15 turnovers overall.
The Lady Lancers continued to score at a high pace in the third quarter, pouring in 22 more points in the frame.
Jenna Blakley was lively in the quarter with seven points. She continued her strong play in the fourth quarter, ripping off 10 more points to finish with 17 for the game. She shot 7 of 10 overall and was 3 of 4 from beyond the arc.
The Saints had no answer for Grace in the final period, as the Lady Lancers coasted to the final 31 point margin of victory.
Feldman shot 10 of 13 for her 22 points, adding 11 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals.
Findley finished with 19 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, and
Maddie Ryman tallied 15 points, 7 assists and 2 steals.
"We shared the ball really well tonight,'' said Grace head coach
Dan Davis. "It was a display of unselfishness and ball movement that I think really encapsulates our team."
Grace will have a week off before returning to action on November 9th when they host No. 4 Carroll at 7 p.m.
