Game Recap: Baseball |

Lancers trimmed by Foresters

HUNTINGTON, Ind. - Grace's baseball team came up short to start its four-game series at Huntington.

The Lancers lost the first doubleheader on Friday, falling 4-2 and 7-0. The series is scheduled to wrap up on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.

The first game of the day was a low-scoring, nine-inning affair. Grace was limited to one run in the first six innings when Jeff Pawlik singled in Patrick Danforth during the third.

Huntington was largely held in check as well thanks to the sharp pitching of Kameron Koch.

But the Foresters used the long ball to score in an efficient manner. Huntington scored three early runs thanks to a home run, double and a triple.

The Lancers had little trouble putting runners on base, but Grace struggled to manufacture runs.

In the seventh, Grace used a two-out single from Alex Rich to score Chris Griffin for Grace's second run, but the Lancers still found themselves trailing.

Huntington created a run in the eighth, using one hit in the inning to go ahead 4-2.

The Lancers threatened to rally in the top of the ninth, loading the bases with two walks and a hit by pitch. But Grace's final batter struck out to conclude the game.

Despite the loss, Grace outhit HU 9-5. The Lancers stranded 16 runners in the game compared to just four for Huntington.

Koch struck out eight hitters in his seven innings from the mound, allowing four hits and three runs.

Austin Carr finished 2 for 3 with a walk, Griffin was 2 for 5 with a run and a steal, and Josh Cosme reached base three times.

In the second game, Grace was shut out 7-0 after tallying four hits. Cal Curiel had two of Grace's hits, and Pawlik and Cosme had the other two.
