Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball defeated by Trojans

UPLAND, Ind. - Three hard-fought sets went against Grace's volleyball team as No. 19 Taylor won 3-0 on Friday night.

The Lady Lancers (6-8, 1-2 Crossroads League) were unable to generate enough offense to keep pace with the Trojans (14-3, 3-0 CL).

Grace had 30 kills and 24 errors on a .052 team hitting percentage, while Taylor had 42 kills on a .238 percentage.

But despite that offensive disadvantage, Grace pressed the Trojans in each set.

The opening set saw Taylor win five of the first six points. Grace never let the score get out of reach, but the Lady Lancers could not overcome the deficit.

Grace rallied late, pulling to within two at 23-21 after a block by Alisha Leffring and Riley Owens. But a timeout by the Trojans allowed TU to recover as Taylor won by four.

Three early kills from Cassadi Colbert in the second set pushed Grace on top early. The Lady Lancers still led 12-10 before TU moved ahead with five straight points.

Taylor maintained a two-point edge late at 21-19, but Grace won four of the next five rallies to regain the lead at 23-22. Colbert had two kills during the spurt, and Grace Erwin also aced.

But Taylor responded with three straight kills to win 25-23.

In the third set, the teams battled fiercely again. A pair of kills from Livia Tate brought Grace within one at 18-17. But the Trojans wrapped up the set, ending the match on a 7-1 run.

Colbert had a team-high 12 kills with three block assists. Leffring added five kills and three block assists.

Liz Schmidt produced 13 digs, and Erwin and Paige Vander Goot each had eight digs. Owens notched 23 assists and three aces

The Lady Lancers end their three-game road trip on Saturday with a 4 p.m. match at St. Francis.
