WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's volleyball team gave highly-ranked Marian a fight on Friday, eventually falling 3-0.
The No. 3 Knights (13-1, 5-1 Crossroads League) avenged their first loss of the season a few days ago thanks to an efficient offensive performance.
Marian had 40 kills and just 13 errors while Grace had 33 kills and 26 errors.
In the first set, Marian gained separation en route to an eight-point victory. The Knights had their most effective offensive set with 15 kills on three errors.
Cassadi Colbert picked up four kills in the opening set.
The teams fought in a tight battle during the second set. Grace trailed by just two at 16-14, but a long rally was won by Marian. The Knights used that momentum to pull away for a 25-16 win.
The third set was a fierce one. Grace began the set strongly with six unanswered points. The Lady Lancers led by as many as eight at 9-1 before the Knights came charging back.
The teams traded points for the rest of the way, but Marian scored a few key points late to secure a four-point win.
Riley Owens ran Grace's offense, producing 25 assists and eight digs. Jadyn Ross narrowly missed a double-double with eight kills and nine digs.
Grace Erwin had a team-high 21 digs with two aces, and Sahara Bee produced five kills on a .417 percentage.
Alisha Leffring notched five kills with a solo block, and Colbert and Katie Swanson had six kills and five kills respectively. Emma Blackford also aced twice.
The Lady Lancers will hit the road on Saturday for a 3 p.m. match at Spring Arbor.
