Grace wraps up Bethel tourney

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MISHAWAKA, Ind. - Grace's volleyball concluded its nonconference tournament at Bethel with two more matches.

The Lady Lancers came up short in each match, losing 3-2 to Campbellsville and 3-1 to IU Kokomo.

In the opener, Grace dropped its early lead to fall to Campbellsville in five sets.

The Lady Lancers began the match in control, winning the first two sets 25-17 and 25-20. Grace's offense sizzled, hitting over .200 in each set victory. Alisha Leffring had four kills in the opener, and Livia Tate had back-to-back kills late in the second set to help secure the win.

The third set was tightly contested, but the Tigers stayed alive by pulling out a 25-23 victory.

Campbellsville won by nine in the fourth set, sending the match to a tiebreaker.

Grace jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the final set, but the Tigers had one decisive run left. CU ran off eight straight points to stun Grace, and the Tigers wrapped up the match with a 15-12 win.

Katie Swanson had a team-high 11 kills, Jadyn Ross had nine kills, and Tate and Leffring added eight kills apiece.

In Grace's tournament finale, IU Kokomo jumped out to an early lead. The Cougars pounced on top with 25-13 and 25-20 victories to begin the match.

Grace fell into a slight hole to begin the third set, but the Lady Lancers showed loads of resolve to stay alive in the match.

Grace used an 8-2 run to surge ahead, and the Lady Lancers maintained a small lead throughout the set. Grace won 25-22 to stay afloat.

Cassadi Colbert registered five kills as a key contribution, and Jadyn Block registered four more kills.

The Cougars had the final word, however. IUK built up a seven-point cushion midway into the fourth set, then held off a late Grace push to win 25-22.

Grace struggled to slow down IUK's attack, which registered 57 kills on a .243 hitting percentage for the match.

Colbert's 15 kills and Block's 11 kills paced Grace's offense, and McKenzie Stakely's 19 digs were tops on the team.

The Lady Lancers' next match will be their home opener as well as the Crossroads League opener. Grace will host Goshen on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
