WINONA LAKE, Ind. — Grace's women's tennis team bounced back to notch two victories in conference play on Wednesday, defeating St. Francis and Mt. Vernon on a beautiful afternoon by the lake. 

The win against St. Francis marks the first victory for coach Emily Ackerman in her first year at the helm.

The Lady Lancers (2-2, 2-2 CL) struck first in the match by taking all three doubles sets to earn the team point. Kiersten Martin and Lydia Ruegsegger joined forces at No. 1 singles to win 6-1. Addy Jarvis and Anna Graves did their part as well in the No. 2 slot.
Hallie Mast and Gretchen Adams made it a trifecta to close out doubles 6-1.

Jarvis led things off to tally the first singles point of the morning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. She was followed shortly thereafter by Mast to give Grace a commanding 3-0 lead in the match. 

The clincher came from Martin in the two-spot as she took care of business 6-1, 6-0. Ruegsegger and Adams each chipped in a point to solidify the 7-0 victory against the Cougars.

The afternoon matchup with Mt. Vernon ended with the same scoreline as the first with Grace on top 7-0 at the end. 

The doubles point got off to a slow start as Jarvis and Graves dropped the first set 3-6. However, they were picked up by their teammates to battle back and secure the doubles point 2-1.

Mast kicked off the singles slate and notched a convincing point at No. 5, 6-0, 6-1. Jarvis kept the train rolling to win 6-3, 6-2 and Graves secured the decisive point at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-2. 

Adams needed a third-set tiebreaker to claim her match, but pulled away late 6-0, 3-6, 10-1 and Martin rounded out the scoring for the day, taking her bout 7-5, 6-3.

The Lady Lancers will be away from home for a non-conference tilt against IU Kokomo on Friday, Sept. 9, starting at 5 p.m.
