MARION, Ind. - A group from Grace's women's tennis team competed in the ITA Regional Championships last week. The event was hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University.

Jimena Ramirez, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, advanced to the final of the main draw. She breezed through the first three rounds in straight sets before needing a tiebreaker to get through the next two rounds. In the final, she came up just short, falling to Alizee Ripolles of UNOH 6-4, 6-3.

Alejandra Sandoval made quick work of her first two opponents, knocking off the No. 8 seed in the second round. She was stymied in the Round of 16 by the No. 9 seed.

Lydia Ruegsegger and Kiersten Martin each dropped their opening round fixture which sent them to the consolation bracket. Martin was able to pick up two victories there before falling in the quarterfinals. 

The doubles main draw saw Ramirez and Sandoval partner together to advance to the semifinal. The pair tallied three victories before dropping the match to the eventual champions 8-4 in semis. 

Martin and Molli Runestad also competed in the main draw before bouncing to the consolation bracket to pick up a win.

Anna Graves and Ruegsegger advanced to the semifinal of the consolation bracket where they were ousted by the eventual winners. 

The Lancers will turn their attention to the conference tournament where they will play Spring Arbor on Oct. 3 at the Don Cramer Tennis Courts.
