FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The season officially came to a close on Wednesday for Grace's women's tennis team.
The Lady Lancers collected their second consecutive win over a Crossroads League school, defeating Huntington 5-2. The match was played indoors at the Wildwood Racquet Club.
Grace used singles' dominance to defeat the Foresters, winning five out of the six singles' courts.
The Foresters claimed the doubles' point to earn an early advantage. Alejandra Sandoval and Lydia Ruegsegger teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles (6-2), but HU struck back to win the final two courts.
All six singles' matchups finished in two sets. Hallie Mast was the most efficient with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
Sandoval was also quick with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles, and Ruegsegger cruised 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1.
Jenna Lewis collected her straight-sets win at No. 5 (6-4, 6-1), and Anna Graves battled to a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 2.
The Lady Lancers won eight matches and finished fifth in the league under first-year head coach Emily Ackerman. The Lady Lancers return the majority of their lineup from the fall season and are poised for an exciting season in 2023-24.
