MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Grace's men's tennis team continued its unblemished start to the season with its fifth straight win. The 7-0 road win against Mount Vernon marks the seventh straight victory in the series against the Cougars.
From the beginning, the match was never in question as the Lancers (5-0, 5-0CL) were dominant out of the gate. All three doubles matches were won by the visitors to tally the first point of the day.Â
Reigning conference player of the week,
Luis Cordoba, joined
Artur Pons in the No. 2 slot to win 6-0.
Javier Gallego and
Facundo Paredes clinched the point with another 6-0 victory. No. 3 doubles marked the season debut for
Landon Gibson and the collegiate debut for
Cole Mast. The duo finished out their opponent to sweep doubles play.
Paredes was first to knock off his opponent with a quick 6-0, 6-0 triumph. He was followed by Gallego, who improved his career record with another straight set victory, 6-2, 6-0.Â
The clincher came from
Artur Pons with his 6-1, 6-2 showing at No. 4 doubles.
Pablo Gregori continued the rout with a 7-5, 6-1 win.Â
The final two points came from
Francisco Margaria and
Cesar Garcia, with the latter getting his first action of the season. Margaria dropped only one game (6-0, 6-1) and Garcia came out on top 6-1, 6-3 to cap off the sweep.Â
Grace will be at home for its matchup against #RV Marian on Sept. 16. The match at the Don Cramer Tennis Courts begins at 12 p.m.
