MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Grace's women's tennis registered another sweep in conference play on Wednesday afternoon. This time, the Lancers came out on top 7-0 against Mount Vernon.
Grace (5-1, 4-1 CL) was dominant all match long, taking every possible point from the Cougars. The previous seven matchups have gone to Grace.
Across the three doubles matches, the visitors dropped only two games to sweep doubles action.
Anna Graves and
Lydia Ruegsegger blanked their opponent 6-0 to get the match started.
Jimena Ramirez and
Alejandra Sandoval were right behind them a 6-0 showing of their own to clinch the first point of the day. Molli Runested and Kiersten ended doubles play with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
As the match moved to singles play, Grace stepped on the gas pedal and pulled away. The first point from singles came when
Anna Graves was leading 5-1 and her opponent was forced to retire from the match.
The next two points came in short order as Sandoval and Ruegsegger went unblemished at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Both won 6-0, 6-0 to put Grace one point away from winning their fourth conference match of the season.
Ramirez (No. 1) provided the clinching point with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the top spot in the lineup. Martin and Runestad capped off the sweep with quick work at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively.
The Lancers will face its stiffest competition of the season on Sept. 16 against Marian. The Knights are ranked No. 23 in the latest NAIA Coaches Poll. First serve at the Don Cramer Tennis Courts is scheduled for 4 p.m.
