WINONA LAKE, Ind. - The upset bid fell short for Grace's women's tennis team on Thursday afternoon at the Don Cramer Tennis Courts. The Lancers dropped a hard-fought match to No. 19 Indiana Wesleyan 6-1.
Though the scoreline read 6-1 at the conclusion of the day, the match was much closer. After dropping the doubles point, Grace looked to rebound in singles play.Â
Alejandra Sandoval evened the match from the No. 3 spot in the lineup. She knocked off her opponent 6-4, 7-6 to draw the match level.Â
Jimena Ramirez dropped the first set 4-6, but stormed back to take the second set 6-2. In the back-and-forth decisive set, she dropped the tiebreaker 5-7.
Anna Graves shared a similar storyline, with her come-from-behind effort falling short as well.Â
That was all the momentum the visiting Wildcats needed as they were within one point of clinching the match. They were able to take the remaining points from No. 4-6 singles to finish off the match.Â
The Lancers will hit the road to conclude regular season conference play on Saturday at Huntington. First serve against the Foresters is scheduled for 12 p.m.
