INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Grace's volleyball team stumbled on the road Friday at Marian.
The Lancers (13-4, 4-2 Crossroads League) struggled to generate offense consistently in a 3-0 loss to the Knights.
Grace hit at a .087 team hitting percentage compared to the Knights' .168 percentage.
The first set was played evenly for the first half with the score level at 15-15. The Knights gained separation with a 5-1 spurt.
Marian ended the set with another 5-1 spurt, coming off five attack errors from the Lancers. The Knights won the opening set 25-19.
Marian used six straight points early in the second set to grab a 10-4 cushion. Grace managed to slice the gap to two, but Marian used an 8-1 run to take control en route to a 25-20 victory.
In the third set, Marian pulled ahead 9-3 to force a timeout from Grace.
The Lancers showed resolve, however, soon rattling off six straight points to tie the score. Jadyn Ross and Sahara Bee had kills during Grace's spurt.
Grace stayed within range, but the Knights snuck away in the latter stages. Marian quickly grew its lead to seven and clinched the match with a 25-18 win.
Alisha Leffring was a lone bright spot for Grace's offense. She tallied a match-high 12 kills on one error for a .478 percentage, also adding three block assists.
Ross had 7 kills, 2 block assists and 11 digs, and Cassadi Colbert had five kills and two block assists.
McKenzie Stakely led Grace with 13 digs, and Paige Vander Goot had 10 digs. Morgan Syoen finished with 15 assists and six digs, and Riley Owens tallied 12 assists and six digs.
The Lancers will end the weekend with another long road trip, playing at Spring Arbor on Saturday at 3 p.m.
