Grace loses road tilt at TU

UPLAND, Ind. - Grace's women's soccer team could not knock off Taylor on the road Wednesday, falling 4-1 in the Crossroads League battle.

The Trojans did not need long to get on the scoreboard. In the seventh minute, Taylor won the ball in Grace's end of the the field and quickly shot from distance above the goalkeeper's head to take a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later, Grace nearly equalized. Rosalie Gefrorer tried a low free kick which beat Taylor's wall but was denied with a diving save by TU's goalkeeper at the far post.

Ten minutes after that, Grace had another chance on a free kick, but Cassidy Felger's attempt in the box was denied.

But with five minutes left in the half, the Trojans doubled their lead off a set piece. Taylor scored directly off the free kick from distance to claim a 2-0 lead as the match reached halftime.

Grace began the second half with confidence. The Lancers had two quick shots after halftime. the first from Tori Twombly was blocked; the second from Sam Vondersaar found the back of the net to slice TU's lead down to one.

In the 58th minute, Taylor scored on a quick attack, benefitting from a stolen pass in the midfield to regain control.

The play was replicated with less than 10 minutes remaining in the match. Grace lost the ball, and the Trojans immediately forced the ball to the other side of the field and converted a breakaway goal.

Grace tried eight shots in the second half but were not able to shrink Taylor's lead. Attempts from Gefrorer, Jasmin Slump, Feline Abbo, Lilli Oberhoff and Vondersaar could not find the back of the net.

Sofia Williams was credited with 11 saves in goal for Grace.

Vondersaar's three shots led Grace's offense, and Slump and Gefrorer each tried two shots.

The Lancers will return home on Saturday for a 7 p.m. match against No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan.
