WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The Grace men's tennis team continued its march through the 2023-24 campaign with a 6-1 victory over Goshen on Tuesday afternoon at the Don Cramer Tennis Courts.
The Maple Leafs were able to take advantage of a slow start by the Lancers to claim the doubles point in the opening moments of the match. Grace was able to regroup and get back on track by sweeping the singles matches to win in decisive fashion.
Artur Pons and
Luis Cordoba provided the lone victory in doubles play winning their matchup at No. 3 doubles 6-1.
Javier Gallego and
Pablo Gregori nearly came out on top in their match, falling 6-7.
Grace turned up the intensity as the match switched to singles action.
Facundo Paredes made quick work to draw the contest even, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
Salva Pons followed with a straight-set triumph 6-1, 6-0, to put the Lancers ahead for good.
Gregori had some work to do, but was able to battle and add a point at No. 3 singles (7-5, 6-3). The clinching point came from reigning conference player of the week, Gallego, in a three-set thriller to seal the victory (7-5, 4-6, 6-3).
Cordoba and
Francisco Margaria brought home the final two points with a pair of straight set victories 6-2, 6-0, and 6-3, 6-1, respectively.
The Lancers will continue Crossroads League action on Sept. 7 against the team in blue. The match in Mishawaka, Ind., against the Pilots will begin at 11 a.m.
