WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Grace's women's tennis team earned its second victory of the season with a 5-2 win over Goshen on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lancers got off to a solid start in the home opener, winning all three doubles matches to take the early lead.
Jimena Ramirez and
Alejandra Sandoval blanked their opponent 6-0 to set the tone.
Molli Runestad and
Kiersten Martin followed with a 6-4 scoreline to secure the doubles point.
Anna Graves and
Lydia Ruegsegger made it a clean sweep with a 6-4 win of their own.
Reigning conference player of the week, Ramirez, earned a hard-fought point from the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 7-5.
The Maple Leafs were able to claim a pair of points from No. 2 and No. 3 singles to put pressure on the home team.
The Lancers were not to be denied as they cleaned up the remaining points to take the match 5-2. Sandoval (No. 4), Runestad (No. 5) and Martin (No. 6) each won in straight sets to secure the victory.
Grace will travel to battle the team in blue on Sept. 7. First serve against the Pilots, who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll, is scheduled for 11 a.m.
