Lancers race at Ray Bullock Invitational

UPLAND, Ind. - Grace's cross country team boasted two individual runners-up at Ray Bullock Invitational.

The Lancers are nearing the end of the regular season but got to race at Taylor at the site of next month's Crossroads League Championships.

"We were pleased with how our men finished up. A few of our guys raced a bit different than normal, and we learned some things along the way," Dewey said. "Our women broke up the large Taylor pack that is ranked No. 2 in the nation, so they are gaining confidence that they can race with the best out there. Our 3-7 pack had improvements as well, and they'll continue to find their rhythm."

Grace's women raced against more than half of the Crossroads League. The team did well, putting five runners in the top-30 overall.

Esther Cameron kept a blistering pace; the junior finished as the runner-up in the 134-person race with a time of 21:58.3.

Kylie Sauder also nabbed a top-five showing. She finished fourth at 22:33.3.

Cece Mitchell placed 17th overall with a race of 23:29.1, Addison Grady finished 21st (23:40.7), and Morgan Welch was not far behind (24:08.0).

Three other runners finished under 25 minutes, including Cassandra Cross (24:28.0), Tame Baylis (24:34.7) and Grace Pettit (24:42.7).

The men's team also raced against five other league opponents, gaining more familiarity with some of the league's best units.

Brandon Kleber finished second in the men's race; he ended in a time of 25:13.9 in the field of 139 runners.

Cole Johnston was another top-10 finisher for the Lancers when he crossed the finish line in 26:05.5.

Luis Loera was third for Grace with a time of 26:33.4. Austin Wilson (26:52.8) and Justin Van Prooyen (26:57.5) finished in consecutive places.

Grace's top-seven was rounded out by Aden McCarty (27:43.5) and Ty McPhatter (28:24.1).

"Overall, we've completed our second of three phases of racing, and we're now going to focus on the best way to be ready for the postseason. I'm excited to see what's in store!" Dewey added.

The Lancers have one race left in the regular season with the Great Lakes Challenge in Michigan on Oct. 26.
