WARSAW, Ind. - Grace's cross country teams battled national competition on Friday morning at the 2024 NCCAA National Championships.
The women's team finished as the national runners-up, and the men's squad placed fifth.
Grace was co-hosting the national championships for the second and final year with Bethel. The races were held at Warsaw Community High School's cross country course on a chilly, windy morning.
Tame Baylis earned the individual spotlight when she raced to All-American status. The sophomore crossed the finish line in 19:20.0, finishing sixth overall in the field.
The women's top-seven runners all finished in the top-30 overall. Grace Geller (19:52.4) and Grace Pettit (19:58.0) ended in 15th and 16th place respectively, and Cadence Manning grabbed 20th with her time of 20:14.8.
The next trio for Grace finished sequentially with Madelyn Skidmore in 26th (20:27.4), Cassandra Cross in 27th (20:28.4) and Heidi Spahr in 28th (20:28.8).
The men were led by Aden McCarty, who placed 26th with a time of 27:09.1.
Ryun Hoffert (27:25.7) and Ian Harrold (27:38.0) finished 33rd and 34th respectively. They were followed by the tight trio of Carter Clear (28:14.6), Ty McPhatter (28:18.1) and Caden Ringer (28:14.6). John Young wrapped up the men's top-seven with his time of 28:40.2.
The Lancers have one race remaining in the cross country season. Next week, Grace will travel to Columbia, Mo., for the 2024 NAIA National Championships. Both the men and women qualified for the fourth consecutive season. The races will take place on Friday, Nov. 22.
