Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Short-handed Lancers fall at HU

HUNTINGTON, Ind. - Grace's volleyball team, playing without several starters, was unable to collect a road win on Saturday.

The No. 18 Lancers (19-8, 12-5 Crossroads League) fell at Huntington in three sets in the penultimate game of the regular season.

Grace had the same amount of kills as HU in the match (36), but the Lancers' 24 attack errors hurt their cause.

Grace will end the regular season at home on Wednesday against No. 24 Marian at 7:30 p.m. The two teams will finish either third or fourth in the Crossroads League, depending on Wednesday's outcome.

The Lancers began the first set by winning five of the first seven rallies. But the Foresters countered with a 12-4 run, and Grace chased for the lead the rest of the set.

Grace continued to battle, chipping away at the Foresters' cushion. Livia Tate provided three kills in the latter parts of the set; her last kill tied the score at 21-21.

But the Foresters made enough plays down the stretch, edging away with a 25-23 win.

The teams exchanged small runs to begin the second set, and HU held a slight 15-13 lead at the midway mark.

But three aces from Huntington sparked a 7-1 run, giving the Foresters the momentum they needed for a 25-17 victory.

The third set had a similar theme. Grace stayed within range and trailed by 16-14.

But the Foresters ended the set by claiming nine of the final 10 points to win by 10.

Tate finished with seven kills, and Sahara Bee, Anna Ballengee and Leah Henderson each picked up six kills.

McKenzie Stakely led all players with 23 digs, and Olivia Martinez added seven digs.

Brea Harris finished with four kills, and Callie Jo Celichowski added three kills and two block assists.

Morgan Syoen produced 18 assists with six digs, and Riley Owens had 12 assists with five digs.
