Offensive barrage leads Grace past Crimson Pride

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's men's basketball team rolled to its sixth straight win thanks to a 104-69 victory over IU Columbus on Tuesday.

The Lancers (7-2) topped 100 points for the fourth time this season, scoring more than 50 points in each half.

Grace put five players in double-digit scoring, led by a dominant 16-point, 16-rebound, 6-assist, 2-block performance by Ian Scott.

Grace blitzed the Crimson Pride right from the tipoff. The Lancers opened the game on an 18-2 run, holding IUC to one basket over the first 5:38. Ian Raasch scored six points during Grace's opening spree.

The Lancers led by over 20 for much of the half, but IU Columbus made a push midway through the half. The Crimson Pride used a barrage of triples to cut Grace's lead to 13.

But the Lancers maintained a cushion and entered halftime ahead 51-35.

Grace was at its most effective around the rim, scoring 30 of the team's 51 points in the paint.

The Lancers did not shoot the ball well at 43 percent overall and 27 percent on 3s. But Grace had 11 offensive rebounds and scored 15 points off IUC's 13 turnovers.

Gage Sefton had 14 points at the break to lead all scorers, and Ian Scott added 10 points with seven boards.

IUC stayed within range by hitting seven 3-pointers at a 54 percent clip.

A few minutes into the second half, Grace used an 11-0 run to surge ahead by 20. The Lancers never trailed by less than 20 for the rest of the way.

Hunter Walston canned triples on two straight trips to continue Grace's momentum. 

The Lancers began subbing out their starting unit with 10:30 left in the game, but the Lancers' reserves continued to score at a high volume. 

Marcus Davidson poured in seven points in seven minutes, Isaac Schultz scored six points (3 of 3 shooting) in six minutes, and Cole Hayworth converted a steal and slam dunk immediately after checking into the game.

The Lancers led by as many as 39 in a comprehensive second-half rout. Grace outscored IUC 53-34 after halftime.

Grace tied a season-best ball handling performance with 10 turnovers. The Lancers finished the game shooting 49 percent from the floor, 28 percent on 3s and 83 percent from the free throw stripe.

IUC was held to 36 percent shooting despite making 44 percent of the team's 3-point tries.

Sefton tied for scoring honors with 16 points, adding 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block.

Raasch finished with 14 points and four boards, and Brycen Graber passed out nine assists.

Sickafoose tallied 14 points and eight rebounds, Carter Stoltzfus had 8 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists, Justin DeGraaf added 10 points, 6 boards, 3 assists and 2 blocks, and Walston collected eight points with three rebounds.

The Lancers are on the road twice next week, playing at Spring Arbor on Wednesday and Taylor on Saturday.
