Grace bounces Bethel from CL Tournament

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's volleyball team earned its 20th win in style, beating Bethel 3-1 in the Crossroads League Tournament quarterfinals.

The Lancers (20-9) displayed a dominant offensive barrage to beat the Pilots (18-16) and advance to the tournament semifinals.

Grace will play at No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday in the semifinals at 7 p.m.

Alisha Voss was practically automatic on offense. She amassed 17 kills on zero attack errors, hitting at a .531 percentage.

Voss was one of four Lancers to reach double-digit kills in Saturday's win as Grace racked up 67 kills as a team on a .250 percentage.

Grace wasted little time taking control of the opening set. The Lancers led 8-6 and ripped off an 11-1 run to stun the Pilots. Voss had two kills and a block during the run.

The Lancers rolled to a 25-12 win in the opener, holding Bethel to a negative attack percentage of -.029.

Grace, who had 15 kills in the first set, was even more lethal in the second set. The offense for Grace exploded for 19 kills in the set.

Bethel managed to erase an early deficit in the second set with seven unanswered points. But the Lancers stayed within striking distance and closed out the set with a strong finish.

Grace won eight of the final nine points in a 25-19 victory. Jadyn Ross had three straight kills, and Voss produced a kill on the final two rallies.

The Pilots were intent to not be swept. Bethel slowly built up a cushion in the third set, eventually pulling ahead 20-13.

Grace rallied, however, thanks to a dominant stretch from Voss. The Lancers rattled off nine straight points to take a 22-20 lead; Voss was responsible for six of those points with kills that continued to ignite the home crowd at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.

Bethel showed poise, however, ending the set with a 5-1 spurt to stay alive with a 25-23 victory.

Voss collected seven kills during the third set, but Grace committed 10 attack errors to hurt its cause.

Grace's offensive momentum carried into the fourth set. The Lancers were efficient with 18 kills on just five errors.

A key 9-1 spurt for Grace provided the separation, and the Lancers secured the win by the score of 25-18.

Voss's 17 kills came with one solo block and two block assists.

Ross produced 13 kills, 5 digs and 3 service aces, Anna Ballengee had 13 kills (on a .333 percentage) to go along with four digs, and Livia Tate tallied 11 kills and four block assists.

Riley Owens notched 32 assists with nine digs, and Morgan Syoen had 20 assists with 10 digs.

Liz Schmidt led all players with 23 digs while adding seven assists, McKenzie Stakely had 14 digs, Leah Henderson produced six kills and two block assists, and Sahara Bee added four kills with three block assists.
