SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Grace's women's tennis team gave No. 17 Holy Cross a battle on Friday.
The Lancers fell to NAIA No. 17-ranked Holy Cross by the score of 4-0.
The match was played at Notre Dame's Eck Tennis Pavilion. The match was played to clinch as a result of the late start, which had to be delayed until the Notre Dame women's tennis match was concluded.
Holy Cross earned the doubles' point by winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Geraldine Salinas and Lydia Ruegsegger held a 4-3 lead at No. 2 doubles before the match was halted due to the Saints clinching.
The Saints ended singles' play quickly with straight-set wins at the No. 4, 5 and 6 courts. The other three singles' courts were very much in the balance, however.
Salinas was also unable to finish at No. 3 singles. She was leading in the second set before the match prematurely ended.
Ruegsegger's match also ended with the score almost deadlocked in the second set, and Jimena Ramirez was in the midst of a three-set battle.
The Lancers will head to Arizona over spring break to play a trio of matches.
