WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's baseball team collected a pivotal 6-2 victory over Goshen on Tuesday.
The win capped off a perfect 4-0 series sweep of the Maple Leafs, helping Grace gain momentum in the Crossroads League standings.
Tuesday's game saw eight runs and four home runs in the seven-inning affair.
Goshen took the lead with a solo home run in the top of the second inning. But Matt Friesema responded with a solo homer of his own in the bottom half of the inning.
An inning later, Grant Hartley sent a two-out home run over the centerfield fence to put Grace ahead.
In the fourth inning, Patrick Danforth and Ryan Stork began the frame with back-to-back doubles to produce a run. Mason Meyer then pinch hit for a single, pushing across another run.
Goshen homered again in the fifth, but Grace countered with a run in the fifth and sixth to increase its cushion to four runs.
Cayden Calloway doubled in the fifth inning and came around to score on a ground ball by Danforth. Friesema drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth to allow Austin Carr to cross home.
Kyle Showley took care of the rest from the mound. He tossed the final 1.1 innings without allowing a run to register the save.
Evan Etchison, Sam Justice and Owen Kirchenstein combined to pitch the first 5.2 innings.
Stark hit 2 for 2, and Calloway and Hartley each batted 2 for 3.
The Lancers will end the week with a four-game series at Huntington on Friday and Saturday. Grace's home finale is on April 19-20 versus Spring Arbor at Tom Roy - UPI Park.
