Grace falls to Gray Wolves

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace College's men's soccer team fell to Lourdes 2-0 on Saturday evening at 1st Source Bank Field.

The Lancer's (0-4-2) were held off the scoreboard despite holding an advantage in shots, shots on goal and corner kicks.

Grace controlled the pace of play in the early portions of the game, but Lourdes was able to capitalize on their first shot of the game to edge ahead 1-0.

Juan Garcia and Vasco Tavares each had tries on goal, but both attempts were stymied by the Gray Wolves' keeper.

With 13 minutes left in the opening half Grace was awarded a corner kick which led to a plethora of chances. Gavin Morgan had two tries on goal and several Lancer players made attempts at the bouncing ball in the box.

Lourdes was able to survive the frenzied attack but the Lancers continued to press for goal.

Joa Laranjo and Tren Schurgers had shots a minute apart but neither attempt found its mark as the game entered the halftime break with Grace trailing 1-0.

Grace held a 7-3 shot advantage at the intermission, led by Morgan's two shots.

Matteo Conci made an early save on the Gray Wolves as the Lancers continued to search for the equalizer.

Grace had three shots from three-different players, but each time Lourdes' keeper bested the challenge.

With 15-minutes left on the clock, Lourdes was awarded a penalty kick and capitalized on the opportunity to take a stranglehold on the game with a 2-0 lead.

Grace played hard to the final whistle as they looked to breakup the clean sheet, but they were unable to solve the Gray Wolves goalie who put the finishing touches on the 2-0 win for Lourdes.

At the final whistle Grace out shot Lourdes 12-9 including 7-4 for shots on goal. The Lancers held an impressive 7-1 advantage on corner kicks and were whistled for two-less whistles.

Next time out for the Lancers will be a road trip to the University of Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
