GOSHEN, Ind. - Grace's women's tennis team added another one to the win column with a 5-2 victory over Goshen on Thursday afternoon. With the win, Grace locked up the No. 3 seed and home court advantage for the quarterfinals of the upcoming Crossroads League tournament.
The doubles point was deadlocked after the first two pairings completed play. Grace (5-2) won on court three and Goshen won on court two. The Lancers, however, took the early advantage, securing the point on court one.
Jimena Ramirez and
Alejandra Sandoval provided the clinching point (6-4) after Molli Runstad and
Natalie Schoenherr blanked their opponents 6-0.Â
The first point from singles action went to Schoenherr. She breezed through her match 6-0, 6-0 to give the Lancers a two-point advantage. Sandoval was the next player to finish, putting Grace one point away from victory.
Goshen picked up the next two points, cutting the deficit to one with victories at No. 4 and No. 2 in the rotation.Â
The Lancers stood firm to keep control of the match.
Molli Runestad won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 to secure the clinching point and give her team the win. Ramirez capped off the day with a win from the top spot, going 6-3, 7-5.
Grace will face off against Spring Arbor in the final regular season conference match on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Don Cramer Tennis Courts.
