FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Grace's women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a commanding 7-0 victory over St. Francis on Thursday afternoon.
The Lancers (1-1, 1-1 CL) set the tone early by sweeping the doubles matches, only dropping two sets in the process.
Amy Adams and
Molli Runestad started off the day with a 6-1 showing in their pairing.
Geraldine Salinas and
Natalie Schoenherr followed with a 6-0 triumph to clinch the point for the visitors.
Jimena Ramirez and
Alejandra Sandoval finished their matchup 6-1 to end doubles action on a high note.
Singles play was more of the same with the Lancers in full control the entire way. Sandoval took the first point in the No. 3 slot, going 6-0, 6-0. Ramirez was next to complete her day with a 6-0, 6-0 scoreline to put one point away from the clincher.Â
Schoenherr provided the necessary point to secure the victory. She too went unbeaten at 6-0, 6-0. Salinas dropped just three sets to add to the overall tally, 6-1, 6-2.
Molli Runestad and
Amy Adams picked up the final two points to make it a clean sweep. Each went 6-0, 6-0 and No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Conference play rolls on with a home match at the Don Cramer Tennis Courts on Saturday. The Lancers welcome Mount Vernon to Winona Lake at 1 p.m.
