Lancers fall in season opener at (RV) Keiser

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The 2025 campaign is officially underway for Grace's baseball team. The Lancers headed for warmer weather to start the season with a three-game set in Florida against (RV) Keiser.

The series opener went to the home team on the scoreboard as the Seahawks picked up the win 14-4 in seven innings.

Grace jumped ahead by a run after its first at bat, but Keiser put together a four-run bottom half of the first to take an early 4-1 lead.

Maximo De Leon was instrumental in manufacturing the first run of the game. After a leadoff walk, he swiped two bases and scored on an error by the catcher.

Matt Friesema added Grace's second run of the day with a long ball in the fourth. His solo shot to lead off the inning cut the scoreline to 7-2.

KU extended its lead each time the Lancers threatened, scoring at least one run in all seven innings.

The Lancers started a two-out rally in the fifth inning to cut into the deficit, plating two runs in the inning. Four consecutive batters reached base safely. De Leon doubled to left and later scored on Gabriel Maldonado's single to right. Friesema added another RBI to his total, bringing in Carter Stogsdill to make it 10-4.

The bats, however, were held in check over the final two innings as the Lancers were unable to record a baserunner down the stretch.

The series continues on Friday with a matinee scheduled for 11 a.m. at Silvester Jr. Field.
