WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's women's soccer team produced a key 3-0 victory over Bethel on Saturday.
The Lancers pounded in three goals after halftime, including a pair from Rosalie Gefrorer, to sink the Pilots (9-4-1, 3-2 Crossroads League) at 1st Source Bank Field.
The first half was a battle for control. The Lancers had more time on the ball, but Bethel had more chances.
Grace's best chance came after a dangerously deep free kick. A cross into the box connected with Cassidy Felger, but her contested header was just off the mark.
The match was scoreless at the half. Grace was outshot 5-2 in the first half despite having 64 percent of the possession.
Grace began to assert itself after halftime. The Lancers (10-2-2, 3-2 CL) possessed with more assertiveness, attacking consistently into Bethel's end of the field.
Ellie Grieser and Nora Pollock were constant threats through the first 20 minutes with each player creating opportunities to score.
Joya Lienammer also had a chance after a corner kick, but her shot from the top of the box sailed above the goal frame.
The breakthrough came in the 74th minute. Heidi Kever launched a high ball into a dangerous position. Her shot soared over the goalkeeper's head, glanced off the goalpost and rolled into the net for the game's first goal.
Grace almost scored again three minutes later, but Audrey Abel's attempt bounced off the crossbar.
With five minutes remaining, Grace doubled its advantage. Felger juked a defender on the right edge of the field and fired a cross along the six-yard box. Rosalie Geforer met the cross and slotted her shot into the net.
A few minutes later, Grace created a carbon copy of the previous goal. Abby Hodkin provided the service this time, setting up Gefrorer again in the heart of the box for Gefrorer's second goal in three minutes.
Hodkin finished with a pair of assists, passing to the scorer on the first and third goals.
Grace ended the match with a 16-10 shot advantage, including a dominant 14-5 edge after halftime. Only one of Bethel's 10 shots were on target.
The Lancers also had seven of the eight corner kicks in the contest. Ivy Cline made one save to collect the shutout in goal for Grace.Â
Grace celebrated Senior Day before the contest, recognizing its two graduating players in Zoe Mueller and Elizabeth Maciejewski.
The Lancers will remain at home on Wednesday, playing host to a Top-20 game. Grace will take on No. 14 Spring Arbor at 7 p.m. at 1st Source Bank Field.
