Game Recap: Softball |

Grace Outpaced by No. 11 Marian

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Grace College's softball team was unable to match the high powered offense of the 11th ranked Marian Knights on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lancers (4-8, 0-6 Crossroads League) were undone by explosive first innings in both games from the Knights.

Grace fell in game one 12-4 and 15-1 in game two with both contests being five inning affairs.

In the opener of Tuesday's doubleheader, the Lancers threatened in the opening frame with runners on the corners with just one out. Marian remained poised though and escaped the inning unscathed.

The Knights exploded for 10 runs in the home half of the inning, eight of them coming with two outs. They added another marker in the second inning.

Sami Lemer led the Lancers off in the third inning and did so in style with her third home run of the season to get the Lancers on the board. Bela Duran had an RBI in the fourth inning to score Sage Ladig.

In the fifth inning Grace started the frame with the first four batters reaching safely. Tia O'Connor and Paige McCorkle each had an RBI but it wasn't enough as Grace fell 12-4.

Game two had a similar start for Marian as the Knights pushed across nine first inning runs.

Grace's offense was quiet through the middle innings before breaking up the shutout in the fifth frame.

Bree Gardinier had a single to left field and advanced to third base before Halle Nett brought her in to score with an RBI double. Grace was unable to find any more offensive success though, dropping the game 15-1.

The Lancers will be back in action on Wednesday for a roadtrip to No. 18 Indiana Wesleyan.
