WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace College's softball team celebrated senior day on Saturday afternoon as they hosted No. 13 Indiana Wesleyan.
The Lancers (7-22-1, 3-20-1 Crossroads League) honored their four seniors;
Bela Duran,
Bree Gardinier,
Montana Brincks Tia O'Connor and
Annie Spicer between games on Saturday. All five players were also named as starters for game one.
Grace struggled to contain the Wildcats' (29-5, 19-3 CL) high-powered offense as they fell behind early in the contest.
In the third inning Duran had a lead-off single which was followed up with a base hit from
Halle Nett. The Lancers got on the board when
Sydney Argo had an RBI double and another run was added with a sacrifice fly from O'Connor.
In the fifth inning Grace showed great patience at the plate and loaded the bases after earning three walks. Nett and
Sami Lemler both scored in the inning but it fell short of extending the game as the Lancers lost 12-4 after five innings of play. Grace had six hits in the opener from six different players.
The Lancers were held quiet through most of game two, scoring their lone run in the third frame.
Paige McCorkle had a lead-off double and came around to score when Nett added an RBI double of her own. Grace scattered hits across the final innings but dropped game two 14-1.
Nett had two hits in the game and Lemler struck out two without allowing a hit over 1.2 innings pitched.
Grace will be back in action on Tuesday as they host No. 15 Marian on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
