WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace College's softball team closed out the home portion of the 2025 schedule on Monday afternoon.
The Doubleheader proved to be a pair of offensive affairs as the windy conditions played havoc on fly balls.
In the opener, the Cougars (24-14, 17-11 Crossroads League) scored two runs in each of the opening two innings to take an early lead.
Grace (7-30-1, 3-28-1 CL) scored one in the bottom of the first.
Sami Lemler doubled and then scored on a two-out single by
Tia O'Connor.
USF broke the game open with a big fourth inning. The Cougars scored five times, sparked by three-straight home runs.
Grace managed to pull back a run in the fifth.
Halle Nett singled with two outs, allowing
Paige McCorkle to scramble home.
But the Cougars activated the run-rule with a three-run sixth, ending the game 12-2.
Bela Duran, McCorkle and
Bree Gardinier each hit 1 for 2.
In game two the Cougars had a pair of long balls in the first inning to jump out to a quick 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the frame Lemler had a walk and
Sydney Argo got the Lancers on the board with an RBI double.
USF added another run in the second inning but Grace answered back in their turn at bat.
Paige McCorkle had a one-out single and advanced to second with a stolen base.
Montana Brincks occupied the empty base with a walk and Lemler doubled to deep right field to push the Lancers score to two runs.
Argo then had her second double in as many at bats as pushed across two more runs for Grace pulling the Lancers to within one.
USF added to their advantage across the middle innings and led 9-4 entering the fifth inning.
Argo continued her impressive day at the plate with a solo home run in the fifth inning and
Daylie Rickard added another RBI to pull the Lancers to within three runs but they couldn't get any closer.
The Cougars added six more runs over the final two frames and Grace ultimately fell 15-7.
Argo had three hits and four RBIs in the game while Lemler added two hits and two RBIs of her own.
The Lancers will end the regular season with doubleheaders at Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Tuesday and at Bethel on Saturday.
