DES MOINES, Iowa - A handful of athletes from Grace's track and field team were invited to the prestigious Drake Relays this week.
The Drake Relays, held annually in Iowa, are one of the top track and field events in the country.
Kylie Sauder posted a school record in a challenging 1,500-meter race. While competing against runners from schools like Oregon State, Iowa and Kansas State, Sauder produced a time of 4:27.90 to better her own school record by over a second. She finished eighth out of 24 runners, almost entirely consisting of NCAA Div. I schools.
Brandon Kleber also impressed in the 10,000. He produced a ninth-place finish of 30:42.45, five seconds off the school-record pace.
Josiah Thompson also competed in the javelin, landing in 20th place with a heave of 153 feet, 4 inches.
The Lancers' postseason begins in earnest with the Crossroads League Outdoor Championships. The two-day meet will begin May 1 in Marion, Ind.
