Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lancers continue unbeaten season with 10-goal explosion

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's women's soccer team ended the nonconference portion of its season with an exclamation point.

The No. 23 Lancers (7-0-2) blitzed Shawnee State 10-0 on Saturday at 1st Source Bank Field.

Grace did not lose a nonconference match for the second straight season under head coach Michael Voss.

Grace was dominant from start to finish on Saturday, holding 83 percent of possession in the match and outshooting Shawnee State 37-1.

The Lancers had four players net two goals and eight players record an assist.

Grace wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. In the seventh minute, two quick passes from Abby Hodkin and Rylee Burns set up Cassidy Felger in the box, and Felger redirected the final pass into the back of the net with an outstretched kick.

In the 28th minute, Nora Pollock doubled Grace's lead with a goal, finishing off an assist by Ellie Grieser.

Four minutes later, Pollock set up Cassidy Felger in front of the goal. Felger's first shot was saved, but she continued with the play and knocked in the rebound for her second goal of the half.

Grace had one more goal before halftime. Rylee Burns found space for a cross on the edge of the field, picking out Madelief Lowik for a clean tap-in finish.

The Lancers entered halftime with a commanding 4-0 lead, holding a 20-1 shot advantage.

Not to be outdone, Grace scored six more goals after halftime.

The Lancers opened the second-half scoring with a bang. Pollock sped by a defender on the left edge of the field, cruising toward the top of the box. She gathered a crowd of defenders and laid off a pass to Rosalie Gefrorer. Gefrorer took care of the rest, blasting a shot past the keeper in the 54th minute.

Six minutes later, Felger and Burns set up Grieser with two quick passes, and Grieser finished off the cross in the 60th minute.

Gefrorer scored her second goal in the 77th minute, benefitting from passes by Joya Lienammer and Audrey Abel.

Lowik then netted her second goal three minutes after that. Pollock's vision set Lowik free in front of the goal, and Lowik completed the close-range finish.

Pollock continued the trend, scoring her second goal in the 84th minute. Pollock scampered through Shawnee State's defense and placed a shot from distance inside the goalpost.

Abel polished off Grace's goalfest in the 85th minute; she teamed up with Keely Bauer, curling her effort into the back of the net.

Pollock finished the match with two goals and two assists, and Burns passed out three assists.

Felger scored twice and had an assist, Grieser and Abel each had a goal and an assist, and Gefrorer and Lowik each bagged a brace.

Ivy Cline registered a saveless shutout, being protected well by Hannah Medlin, Elizabeth Maciejewski, Zoe Mueller, Jaylin Young, Heidi Kever and Noelle Hooper.

The Lancers will kick off Crossroads League play next week, playing at St. Francis on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Grace will return home on Saturday for a match versus Huntington at 7 p.m.
