WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace College's Men's soccer team fell short in their upset bid of No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday night.
The Lancers (2-5-4, 0-2-1 Crossroads League) battled close with the Wildcats but were unable to produce offense, falling 1-0 after 90 minutes of play.
The first chances of the contest belonged to Grace.
Eric Favere had a shot just a little over three minutes into the game and two minutes later
Teague Misner headed a shot towards goal but both chances went over the crossbar.
Momentum then flipped towards IWU (9-1-2, 3-0 CL) who had a shot and corner kick in close order.
The Lancers were shown a yellow card and an onslaught from the Wildcats ensued. IWU had four shots and a corner kick in the next four minutes.
The Lancers chased possession for the remainder of the half. The Wildcats had two more shots and generated another corner chance but were unable to find the back of goal.
Grace was outshot 7-2 in the first half and didn't have a corner kick while the Wildcats had three.
Grace and IWU traded shots early in the frame before the yellow cards began to be handed out liberally. Seven yellow cards were handed out in the second half.
The Wildcats had five chances in the first 10 minutes before a well placed crossing pass gave the Wildcats the game's first goal.
Sebastian Lozano had two tries on goal and Grace had a corner kick chance as they sought the equalizer. Â
Cihan Acik had a headed shot that was blocked before making it on goal then
Henrique Pereira's try was saved by the Wildcat keeper.
Grace would muster just two more chances over the final 15 minutes as the Wildcats claimed the 1-0 victory.
The Lancers were outshot 16-9 but had one more shot on goal. IWU doubled up Grace 6-3 in corner kicks.
Grace will return to action on Saturday with a road trip to Marian.
