MISHAWAKA, Ind. - Grace's women's soccer team battled its way to a 2-0 victory on the road at Bethel on Saturday.
The No. 5 Lancers scored a goal in each half; Cassidy Felger sparked each goal for Grace.
With the win, the Lancers (10-1-2, 4-0-1 Crossroads League) move into sole possession of first place in the league standings.
Grace's next match is on the road against second-place Spring Arbor on Wednesday night.
Saturday evening's match saw Grace control play. The Lancers limited Bethel to two total shots in the match; the Pilots only had one corner kick as well.
Neither team recorded a shot attempt for the first 10 minutes. Heidi Kever tallied the first attempt, which was saved at the 10:33 mark.
The go-ahead moment came shortly afterwards. Cassidy Felger dribbled the ball in Bethel's box and was tackled from behind.
Grace was awarded a penalty kick, and Felger buried the shot for a 1-0 lead.
From that moment on was a steady stream of Grace's advances. The Lancers had shots from Rosalie Gefrorer, Nora Pollock and Sydney Millen, adding four corner kicks over a 14-minute span.
But despite a dominance of chances, Grace held a 1-0 lead as the match reached halftime. The Pilots (8-4-2, 3-2 CL) were outshot 7-1 in the first half.
Grace's second goal came on the team's first attempt of the second half. Felger charged into the box and stole a ball from the Pilots. She quickly crossed a pass, and Pollock redirected the cross past the goalkeeper for an insurance goal.
The Pilots were unable to generate any type of offense in response. Bethel did not take a shot attempt for the final 41 minutes of regulation, recording more yellow cards (2) than shots (0) during that time.
Grace had late shots from Abby Hodkin and Pollock, but the score remained 2-0 until the final whistle.
Elaina Clapp needed to make just one save to record the shutout as Grace's goalkeeper; she was protected by Hollie Robinson, Jaylin Young, Kever, Hannah Medlin and Audrey Abel.
Gefrorer and Pollock tallied three shots apiece to lead all players, and Hodkin had a match-high two shots on goal.
